FAQ
How does the self-learning synchronization process work for pairing two Hall Effect actuators with the PA-CB40 control box?

During the initial setup, the PA-CB40 is required to go through its 1st hard reset procedure, which is also when the self-learning control system actively gathers stroke length information as the actuators fully extend and retract. A short “teach” cycle will be for counting Hall effect feedback pulses to map stroke length and speed. After completing this Hall effect actuator pairing, the controller trims motion in real time so both units start, travel, and stop together synchronously—even under uneven load.

What types of actuators and power supplies are compatible with the PA-CB40, and how do I choose the correct wiring harness?

Hall Effect feedback and brushed 12 VDC (12.5A) or 24 VDC (6.25A) motors are required for actuator compatibility, while being within the current and voltage ratings. Choose power supplies that output the same voltage as the operating voltage of the chosen actuators and can handle the total current draw of both actuators. Select the PA-CB40 wiring harness that matches your actuator connector (e.g., Molex Mini-Fit Jr. or flying leads with ring/spade lugs) and wire gauge appropriate to your current draw and cable length requirements.

What are the built-in safety protections in the PA-CB40, and how do they respond to faults like overload or short circuit?

The PA-CB control box safety features include out-of-synchronization, output short circuit, over-duty-cycle, out-of-range input voltage, reverse input voltage, and overcurrent/overload protection. The controller monitors output current draw and will halt all control box actions to cancel any outstanding commands when the output draws too much current, such as during an overload or short circuit.

Can I use the upgraded 4-button remote for custom positioning or simultaneous movement, and how is it configured?

Yes, a 4-button actuator remote is included with the PA-CB40 to access Up, Down, Stop, and Programming Mode for synchronized dual actuator operation. The configuration process for all the different mode options is fairly extensive and covered in full detail starting at page 9 of our PA-CB40 control box data sheet

What are the key differences in performance between 12 VDC and 24 VDC setups using this control box?

At the same mechanical load, a 24 VDC system draws roughly half the current of a 12 VDC system, reducing voltage drop, wiring losses, and heat in the controller. Actual speed/force is determined by the actuator model; the PA-CB40 logic and sync performance are identical for either voltage configuration.
